Genesis Genomics goes to market with at-home skin test

Local biotechnology firm Genesis Genomics has launched a new product it hopes will change the face of the cosmoceutical marketplace.

For the first time ever a take-home product will have the ability to detect DNA damage to a person's skin from UV exposure, to identify future risks and show the best way to treat any damage that may exist. And it is performed by a simple cotton swab.

Genesis Genomics has put it's science behind a new line of skin care and repair products that will hit the shelves in nine markets around the world next month.

Once risk factors are identified there is a line of treatments specially designed to either protect an individual or even repair damage already done at the most basic DNA level. Shopper's Drug Mart has signed on and will carry the product in 800 stores nationwide.

Cleveland Clinic's Dr. Michael Roizen talks on 'staying young' in Palm Beach

When you announce a talk on "Staying Young" in Palm Beach, expect a packed house.

Reservations quickly filled seats for Dr. Michael Roizen's lunch lecture Thursday at Club Colette, so presenter National City Private Client Group added a morning session with Roizen, chief wellness officer of the Cleveland Clinic, at the bank's Royal Palm Way office.

People too often blame genetics for their health issues, but behavior contributes heavily to the nation's physical woes, according to Roizen, co-author with cardiothoracic surgeon Mehmet Oz of You: Staying Young: The Owner's Manual for Extending Your Warranty, their latest best-selling how-to health guide.

Sedentary lifestyles and poor eating habits have created an epidemic of obesity and greater need for acute medical care as the American population ages, Roizen said.
