| Urgent Care Clinic is on the move
EUREKA -- St. Joseph Hospital invites the community to an open house on Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. at its brand new Urgent Care Clinic, located on the Dolbeer Street side of St. Joseph Hospital's main campus. The event will feature tours of the new facility, a ribbon cutting with Eureka Mayor Virginia Bass and refreshments. The Urgent Care Clinic will continue operating on the General Hospital campus until April 21, when it will begin treating patients at its new location at the main hospital. The new clinic features 10 treatment rooms, new equipment, expanded services and increased physician staffing. The new clinic is also closer to Emergency Room and Lab and Radiology services. Plans to relocate the Urgent Care Clinic have been in the works for nearly five years. About a year and a half ago, staff identified an area that formerly served as housing for Sisters of St.

Why it makes sense to get the HPV vaccine
Human papilloma virus has been drawing a lot of media attention for the past two years, yet many patients are unaware of exactly what it is, and how a vaccine that is now available may prevent many infections. HPV is a common virus that can be spread by any skin-to-skin contact, including sexual intercourse, or oral or anal sex. Approximately 80 percent of sexually active people will be exposed to HPV sometime during their lifetime. Most women's first exposure is between the ages of 15 and 25 years. There are hundreds of different types of HPV, but there are two main subgroups: The high-risk types cause cervical cancer, and the low-risk types cause genital warts. There is no treatment for high-risk HPV, only treatment for the resulting pre-cancerous cells. There are no symptoms of HPV, and 80 percent to 90 percent of HPV infections will clear spontaneously.

And also, I see a lot of friends in the crowd. I do have to say, I realized as I walked out here that I hit the trifecta today. I started out speaking at Yale Law School on Monday, I spoke at Georgetown Law School yesterday and today I'm speaking at Stanford Law School. The only law school I'm not speaking at is my own law school.
Every breath counts
New parents are often cautious about germs. Springfield couple Jason and Jincy Hinely have reason to be a bit more cautious than most. When Jace Thomas Hinely was born on June 18, 2007, a relative mentioned he snorted when he breathed. The doctors weren't initially concerned. They said the condition was because of mucus and that it would work itself out. But his parents saw that, while nursing, he kept backing off to catch his breath. The following Sunday afternoon, just one week after his birth, Jace Hinely turned blue. "He was crying and couldn't catch his breath," his mother, Jincy, said. The family rushed him to Effingham Hospital where he was sent by ambulance to Memorial Health's Backus Children's Hospital. Though frightening, the young parents were thankful the event didn't happen at night while their child was sleeping.
